Ella Mae Allen, age 79, of Marion, IL, passed away at 4:28 p.m. on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at her home.
She was born on February 26, 1945, in Trebloc, MS, from the union of the late C.D. and Inez (Huddleston) Thompson.
Ella Mae was united in marriage to Alfred Lee Allen on January 31, 1966, in Marion, IL, and together they shared over 30 years of marriage until his death on November 2, 1996.
Early in her lifetime she worked at several different restaurants of the area. The majority of her working career was as a bank teller and in book-keeping with The Bank of Marion, now known as First Southern Bank, for 30 years until her retirement. After her retirement she began working for the Marion Junior High School as a Crossing Guard and Lunch Supervisor.
She was a long-time member of Paul's Chapel Baptist Church of Marion, and often attended many other churches of the area. Recently due to her health she enjoyed watching online the service of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church of Carbondal
