Gloria Jean Watkins Sharp, 80, of Johnston City, formerly of Zeigler, passed away at 6:09 p.m., Thursday, February 27, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her family.
Gloria was an only child and was born March 9, 1944, in Paducah, Kentucky to Lyle and Edna (Futrell) Pugh. She was united in marriage to George E. Watkins on July 29th, 1961, until their divorce in 1999. He preceded her in death on November 23, 2013. She later married Eugene Sharp on September 2, 1999, and he preceded her in death on August 3, 2012, in Donna, Texas.
Gloria worked many years helping others. She began working at Zeigler Colonial Nursing Home and later running a RV Park, Bit-O-Heaven, in Donna, Texas. She went on to retire and moved back to Illinois to be closer to her children. Upon returning to Illinois, she worked at Cracker Barell in Marion, Buds Auction Barn in Johnston City, as one of the kitchen cooks, and also worked at One Direction in Herrin, a job she truly loved and enjoyed.
