Donald L. Black, 95, of Carterville, passed away Monday, March 3, 2025, at Parkway Manor in Marion, surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 7, 2025, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Rev. Ryan Tackett officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
Memorials can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to Veteran's Honor Wreaths.
Don was born on July 22, 1929, in Carterville, to James Leslie and Velma (Burrell) Black. He married Alice C. Fogle on April 28, 1951, in Piggott, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on July 28, 2017.
He is survived by his son, Les (Nancy) Black; daughters, Kim (Dennis) Spencer, and Marianne (Steve) Cowan; grandchildren, Austin (Steven Mattli) Black, Jill Minor, Lindsay (Joe Chotner) Rawls, Jennifer Bonner, Crystal (Azhar) Ulhaq, Denise (Nathan) Rid
